Nature POP!

Made with LEGO bricks

Flamingo Gardens

I had a chance to go check out Sean Kenny’s Nature POP! exhibit at Flamingo Gardens. The Gardens is one of the oldest South Florida attractions. Established in 1927, the property started out as an orange grove and has grown over the years to include more than 3,000 species of rare and exotic, tropical, subtropical, and native plants. The botanical garden also includes some of the largest collections of orchids, cycads, and heliconias & gingers in the US.

The Gardens is also home to the Everglades Wildlife Sanctuary. The sanctuary houses injured and non-releasable birds and animals. When you visit be prepared to see some native wildlife like a black bear, bobcats, owls, hawks, and a personal favorite, river otters. Yes, you can even see flamingos at Flamingo Gardens.

AFOL

Since Flamingo Gardens is a sub-tropical habitat with some of the largest trees in Florida, this was the perfect backdrop to blend the Nature POP! exhibit. As an AFOL (adult fan of LEGO), it was great to wander the winding paths of the gardens to see what Lego build was awaiting my arrival. I had my mini-me in hand and ready for some photo-taking. I used my Lumix S1 camera with a Leica 24-70mm Vario-Elmarit-SL lens. Enjoy some of my images from the exhibit. Click to enlarge.

Details

Sean Kenny is the master builder behind the exhibit and has over 15 years as a LEGO artist. The Nature POP! pop-art nature exhibit is designed to be playful, colorful, and vibrant, and “showcases the beauty of nature in ways you’ve never seen before”. The exhibit features over 40 sculptures made from more than 800,000 LEGO bricks. Click to enlarge.

Final thoughts

I had so much fun checking out the Nature POP! exhibit. The attention to detail was just amazing. I don’t think I have the patience to build an 800-hour build like that polar bear mom and cub. I believe my thumbs would fall off…lol. This was actually my second Sean Kenny exhibit and both have been totally different. If you get a chance, I highly recommend checking one of his exhibits out. I hope you enjoyed my photos. If you would like to see one of Sean’s exhibits in person, check out his schedule for upcoming shows: https://www.seankenney.com/exhibits/
